What has Taekwondo done for me?

Taekwondo has made me a lot stronger! It has shown me how to be more respectful. I have more confidence in myself. It has taught me to be more aware of my healthy, to eat better and exercise.

It taught me not to show off and to respect other people’s feelings. It has also taught me that it is important to always tell the truth, be honest with others and to myself. I am stronger and love to breaks boards, spar and go to tournaments.

Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club have taught me all these things and still learning. I like atmosphere and friendly environment. Not only that I love to train but it feels like I am part of a huge family at Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club.

I am 12 years old. I have been training at Ms. Mari’s martial Arts for a year and a half. I am also a member of the National Competition Team and a STORM Team member.

Taekwondo has taught me how to be a leader and how to push myself to do more even when things are tough.

I started going to Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club’s after school program over a year ago. I got picked up from school in one of their vans. I learned about a lot of things since I started at Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club:

Respect – following rules, listening, being good and helping people.
Self-Control – Controlling myself to listen to teachers and instructors.
If I have a smaller partner I control my strength, so that my partner doesn’t get hurt.
Meditation – focusing and sitting down quietly with mmy eyes closed.
Patience - Taking time to do things the right way.

I like going to Ms. Mari’s Martrial Arts Club because I like how they teach and have fun while doing exercise. Also, I have made new friends.

My brother Raphael, was the person to first bring me to Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts. In all honesty before I joined I never really considered taking martial arts. After taking a few years off from soccer, I wanted to start a new sport. Unfortunately, I have no hand-eye coordination skills and I’d tried almost every sport (Including figure skating and horse-back riding) without picking interest.

Raphael, however, first suggested to try Taekwondo. Curiosity, coupled my love for Korea, convinced me to sign up. Therefore, a short time later, I went to my first class in late June 2012. Although, I attended taekwondo classes irregularly during the summer, once the school year started, I began to fall in love with Taekwondo. My natural competitive spirit, perfectionism, and aggression were well suited and I became more heavily involved. I impress my friend with my latest number of pushups I can do in a row and I feel both happier and stronger. Before I started my Taekwondo classes at Ms. Mari’s Martial Arts Club, I couldn’t touch my toes, I can now!!! Doing Taekwondo has been a wonderful experience for me and I will continu to work hard in attaining my Blackbelt at Ms. Mari’s martial Arts Club.
